Three Parliamentary Secretaries take Oath of Office

NASSAU, The Bahamas -- Governor General His Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes swore in three Parliamentary Secretaries during an Appointment Ceremony in the Ballroom, Government House on Monday, May 14, 2012. Anthony Moss, Member of Parliament-Elect, Exuma took the Oath of Office as Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government; Renward Wells, MP-Elect, Bamboo Town took the Oath as Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Works and Urban Development and Cleola Hamilton, MP-Elect, South Beach as Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration.
Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry Gladstone Christie; Joan Lady Foulkes; Members of Parliament; civic leaders; senior government officials; family of the Parliamentary Secretaries and scores of well-wishers were present for the event. Prime Minister Christie told the Parliamentarians that they have been placed in their positions to help the Ministers in implementing the work that has been assigned to them and to also make the Ministers’ work easier.
The Prime Minister said, “I please implore you to recognise that we are now facing very serious times in our country, and as soon as you are finished here, you go to work and begin the process of moving the country forward.” He also noted that the swearing in of the Parliamentary Secretary marks the completion of the appointment of the Bahamas Government’s Executive Team.
“We will now turn our attention to the Senatorial appointments and other appointments that fall within the purview of the Prime Minister, all with a view to completing this process, so that the entire country could be invited to focus on the way forward insofar as the implementation of the policies, strategies and initiatives,” Prime Minister Christie said. He thanked the Governor General and Lady Foulkes for “the wonderful set of courtesies” they extended during the swearing-in ceremonies.
The Prime Minister also thanked the staff of Government House for the work they did to make the ceremonies a success. Prime Minister Christie took the Oath as the fifth Prime Minister on Tuesday, May 8; the Hon. Philip Edward “Brave” Davis was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Urban Development on Wednesday, May 9. Eight Cabinet Ministers of the new Progressive Liberal Party Government took the Oath of Office on Thursday, May 10 and the remaining 11 took the Oath on Friday, May 11.
